Fees, rebates & FAQs

Clear fees, so you can focus on feeling better

Session costs, Medicare and other rebates, our cancellation policy and answers to common questions – all in one place.

Session fees

Simple, transparent pricing

The same fee applies whether you see us in person in Baulkham Hills or by telehealth. Most clients are eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Standard session

$285

50-minute session with a Clinical Psychologist, in person or by telehealth. The Australian Psychological Society recommends $318.

Medicare rebate

$149.05

Per session with a Clinical Psychologist, with a GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan (rates as of 1 July 2026).

Your out-of-pocket

$135.95

Per session after your Medicare rebate, for up to 10 rebated sessions each calendar year. Less once you reach the Medicare safety net.

Cancellation policy

48 hours' notice, please

We know life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let us know at least 48 hours before your appointment so the time can be offered to someone else who needs support. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged the full session fee of $285, which Medicare and most funders don't rebate.

To cancel or reschedule, email info@thinkspacepsychology.com.au

Rebates & funding

Ways to fund your sessions

You may be able to claim rebates from more than one source. If you're unsure what applies to you, just ask – we're happy to help you work it out.

Medicare

Under the Better Access to Mental Health scheme you can claim a rebate for up to 10 sessions each calendar year. Visit your GP or psychiatrist for a referral as part of a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Once you reach the Medicare safety net, the rebate covers nearly the entire session cost.

NDIS

If your NDIS plan includes psychology, you may be able to claim the full cost of your sessions. You'll need to be self-managed and pay the invoice at the time of your session.

Private health insurance

Many private health funds offer rebates for psychology, depending on your level of cover. Contact your fund to check what you're eligible for. Private health and Medicare can't be claimed for the same session.

WorkCover & CTP

We're registered to see clients under WorkCover and insurance schemes, with no out-of-pocket cost. Before your first appointment we'll ask for your insurer, case manager and injury details.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

Only if you'd like to claim a Medicare rebate. Your GP or psychiatrist can refer you as part of a Mental Health Treatment Plan. You're welcome to book without a referral and pay the standard fee, or use private health, NDIS, WorkCover or CTP where eligible.

How often does my GP need to review my Mental Health Treatment Plan?

To keep claiming Medicare rebates, your GP may need to review your plan. Reviews can't occur within 4 weeks of your original plan, or more than once every 3 months unless exceptional circumstances apply. Most people need no more than two reviews per calendar year. Your GP will check your progress and issue an updated referral if needed.

What if I use all my Medicare sessions?

You're welcome to continue at the standard fee, and you may be able to claim through private health insurance. Your Medicare sessions reset each calendar year. We'll talk through options with you before you reach your limit.

How is clinical psychology different from other types of therapy?

Clinical psychology focuses on assessing, diagnosing and treating mental health conditions using evidence-based treatments guided by research. Counselling and coaching often address general life issues or personal growth, while Clinical Psychologists hold advanced degrees and are trained to manage complex mental health concerns that may need specialised care.

What should I expect to feel over time in therapy?

Some people notice changes after the first session, while most notice meaningful shifts after about four weeks. Feeling change – positive or uncomfortable – is often a sign you're seeing things in a new way. Everyone's journey is different, so being patient with yourself matters.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged the full session fee of $285, which can't be claimed through Medicare.
